BBC iPlayer
This app is free to use in the UK. Well I say free, we all have to pay a TV License fee(so they have our details, I'll come back to that.) Unlike most services there are zero ads, but they do have trailers for their own content.
The app on my tablet has a different layout to what is on Google TV
For some reason they hid a lot of things in the search section. It's where you have to go to watch BBC channels live which isn't intuitive at all. It's also a pretty boring section, no pictures just relying on different colours to show differences.
But what gets me is when I go to watch anything on the TV, it asks me if I have a TV licence. Now as try have my details, why can't we link to our license so we can skip this step?
Then on the app, it ask if I want to turn on a PG lock, but no option to turn that off. No one else uses my tablet but me! So why can't I set it to not ask, I'm an adult you don't need to ask again.
One good thing they have are the subtitles, they only need setting once and they will be there for everything, which does make things easier.
Content wise I haven't delved too far in, but they do have a signed section, which is always good to see. But to be taken seriously against the competition they should considering having more sub categories that are easy to get to, allowing people to narrow down on their interests.
