Convention Planning & scheduling

Posted Sep 10th, 2008 by Rich

I always seem to be working on one script or another. Currently I’m working on just two - eShop my plugin for Wordpress and a Convention planning/scheduling set of scripts.

I don’t know MS Excel, and have no real desire to learn how to use it properly. So when I was asked to take on the scheduling for the Discworld Convention 2008 I thought I’d go back to what I know php/mysql. So over one weekend I wrote a basic framework for handling the scheduling for the programme at that Convention.

As time progressed the scripts evolved into something usable by others. Even right upto the Con smaller scripts were being added and settings tweaked to get it to work as expected. The Con is now over and the scripts handled quite well but I have learnt a lot as to what is needed. The main core of the scripts were fine, but it was the little added extras that I was missing.

As a result I’m in the process of converting the scripts for use by others adding in all the bells and whistles I can think of. I don’t know at what stage I’ll release it for people to download, so if you need a copy feel free to get in touch.
