Premier Travel Inn – yuck

I have often used Premier Travel Inn because for a family of 4 it can be somewhat cheaper than an ordinary hotel, or even a Bed & Breakfast. But after what happened last weekend in London I don’t know if we will be quite so quick to use them again.

Yesterday I moved some books

because yesterday we had some new bookcases fitted. 8 foot plus bookcases, which may be a bit excessive but they have managed to hold virtually all our books!

Plus, and I have wanted this since we moved here, a built in TV unit that actually hides the majority of the cables that are now associated with modern TV viewing – in our case that is approx. 15 sets of cables!

Considering the trouble the joiner had installing them I doubt very much that they will ever be moved – at least not by me.

Inaccessible sites

Web accessibility is a growing field, the rest of the world just needs to catch up with the few that are dedicated to it. However there are various sites out there that laud and honour accessible sites. I think it is about time that one is started for inaccessible sites.

So if your site isn’t acessible, doesn’t validate or only works in Internet Explorer feel free to let me know! If there is enough response then I’ll create a website to list them all!

Please note sites will only be accepted if they are posted by their respective web maintainers. You also agree to allow us to use your site in any online, or offline, demonstration of inaccessible web design.

Don’t be shy – you know you want to!

Google introduces Closed Captioning

Finally, Caption Playback. Ken Harrenstien is deaf, and he works for Google. He obviously had a vested interest in this particular project.

Of course a side benefit is that it will allow for easier searching through video’s to find possible topics of interest. Let’s hope this takes off to benefit everyone.

Rhianna Pratchett makes the grade

Nice to see that Rhianna is getting some recognition on her own merit. She has been listed on the Game Industry’s 100 Most Influential Women.

Rhianna Pratchett designs stories and narrative for videogames, including game scripts, cut-scenes and in-game dialogue.

The Con is over

As the more eagle eyed readers may have noticed i didn’t manage to blog anything at all during the Discworld convention. I have subsequently managed to write a few articles for the Chronicle Live however.

My thanks tgo to the Committee, the guests, the gophers and everyone that attended. As the Junior programme co-ordinator, and suffering from a bad back for the majority of the Con, I was thankful for all the help I was given. Everyone I met was pleasant, including the hotel staff – even after we complained about the food!

I am already looking forward to the next one and maybe next time I’ll get to see more than one event!
