Yep it’s been one of those days again.
A user found a bug in eShop, which usually isn’t a problem to fix but this time it uncovered another issue that had to be fixed. That then took 4 hours, for what should have been a quick 30 minute job.

I appear to have spent the last few months developing extensions for forums. Specifically FluxBB and PunBB. Both forums are based on the same code but are slowly beginning to diverge. FluxBB developers have decided to delay their release cycle and add more features and take the time to tidy things up. PunBB developers have decided to release what they have.
Some years ago I wrote a Content Management System. I’d written it because of the lack of good CMS applications out there. Accessibility wise my CMS was as good as the best ones out there. But as time moves forward I couldn’t see how much further I could develop it, without starting from scratch again.
So I’ve decided to stop working on it, and move a site that was using it over to WordPress. Of course I could have written some scripts to import things into WordPress, but there would be so much that needed tweaking it is easier to do it a page at a time.
Time consuming and mind numbingly boring.
But once set up things will be a lot easier to maintain due to some extra plugins. Mostly these have been written by others, with a few adapted by myself. My lack of javascript skills don’t allow me to tweak some of them as much as I would like, but I have managed to get a few older plugins to work in 2.6.*. Hopefully when 2.7 is released they won’t require further tweaking!
Some years ago someone I know left UK2, in fact it was around the same time that I left. Well with what comes as little to no surprise they have just received yet another email from them. Apparently sent from newsletter@uk2.net with a reply to of comeback_newsletter@uk2.net and a subject of Claim your voucher today!
They do provide an oh so un-useful un-subscribe link in the email, which points to an unknown server: http://tr1.bp28.net/ however the rest of the links do in fact link to www.uk2.net. Even if the person I know would be daft enough to try and un-subscribe, going to a totally unknown URL is something they definitely would not do.
When a customer leaves UK2 they are not given an option to un-subscribe from these mailings, and shouldn’t even be subscribed to them. This is spam. This is wrong, and it should be illegal – oh wait it probably is.
I have been trying to get my wordpress plugin working. For no apparent reason it literally just stopped working, no idea why.
Locally it worked, but with this hosting provider it didn’t. I tried various versions of wordpress and my plugin and nothing worked here. Then I tried elsewhere. Free hosting is really really bad and not worth trying with – but I tried with 2 and got nowhere.
